Fruit Tree Pruning in Lethbridge

As the Winter is coming to an end and the buds are embarking on their yearly journey into beautiful blossoms and then onward to delicious fruit, I wanted to take some time to reflect on our efforts this Winter to keep Lethbridge's fruit trees healthy and disease free.

Firstly, we were grateful to have so many people in Lethbridge use our fruit tree pruning services this year and we are looking forward to seeing how they develop in the spring & Summer!

Secondly, a big part of our role in Lethbridge providing tree maintenance & tree services is ensuring our clients have a better understanding of what it takes to ensure their trees remain as healthy as possible. Fruit trees, as durable as they are, require a different kind of pruning method compared to their non fruit bearing compatriots, especially if we are pruning for fruit production! This includes heavy reduction cuts on the central, unreachable part of the canopy to allow for more light penetration to the lower, reachable portion where the fruit will be most accessible.

Lastly, we ensure a thorough inspection of the entire canopy to look for symptoms of fireblight and black knot (2 of the more common diseases in fruit trees in Lethbridge). This is another education point we like to make to our clients to enable them to properly diagnose the disease and either call us in earlier than our prescribed tree maintenance plan or to prune it out themselves.
